November News and Upcoming Events

Two weeks ago, we were back on campus for the annual Columbia Alumni Leaders Weekend. Over the three days, 800 alumni leaders from around the world gathered to learn, exchange ideas, and come together to better serve the more than 350,000 Columbia global alumni. President Lee C. Bollinger ’71LAW addressed and took questions from the attendees on the current and future state of Columbia, Erika Irish Brown ’98BUS, chief diversity officer at Goldman Sachs, spoke to us about an inclusive workplace, and the Vice President for Alumni Relations and President of the CAA, Donna MacPhee ’89CC inspired us all as she shared highlights of what alumni are doing. CUCL proudly walked away with an award for the Most Engaging Communications—an accolade with which we hope you agree!

It’s also that time of year for our Autumn Survey where CUCL members get to let us know how we’re doing and what to plan for the next year. For every member that completes the survey, you’ll be entered to win some great prizes, picked up on campus in the bookstore while in New York. We had great response last year, and hope for even better this time around. Click HERE to share your thoughts.

But before we get to 2019, we have to finish off 2018… and we’re not slowing down.

This Wednesday is Giving Day, when Columbians from around the world stand together to support students, faculty, research, and ideas that will change the world (more below). You can also join us that evening for our Urban Property Development and the Future of the Workplace event.

Looking forward to November, we have more Tennis, Columbia Connects and the next CVC event. And don’t forget about our biggest celebration of the year, our Holiday Party on December 5th.

As always, more is in the works, so stay tuned and check our webpage and be sure to follow us on facebook and instagram.

Please also keep in touch. Reach out at [email protected] if you need anything.

Courtney (President) & Stephen (Vice President)

Save the Date:

Columbia Giving Day | October 24

Every October, Columbians around the world—alumni, students, parents, friends, neighbors, faculty, and staff—come together for Giving Day, a 24-hour online fundraising event.

This year CUCL will make contribute for London Alumni who donates! The more of you who give, the more CUCL will give.

Please select LONDON as your CAA Regional Club so we can match your donations.

When you give on our seventh annual Giving Day, your gifts will go farther and be matched! Customise your donation to a cause you care about—support the schools, programs, and causes that are important to you, helping them earn matching funds.

A Hollywood Christmas at the Royal Albert Hall | December 19th, 19:30

Together with Yale University and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, we welcome you to enjoy an exclusive evening with the charismatic conductor John Mauceri (Yale B.A.’67; M. Phil ‘71), CNN’s ‘Voice of the Millennium’—who performed to audiences of four million during his record-breaking tenure at the Hollywood Bowl—leads the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra in this exciting motion picture journey.

The evening will feature scores from festive films such as A Christmas Carol (1984), The Nightmare before Christmas (1993) and Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone™ (2001), as well as Christmas carols including Hark the Herald Angels Sing and The First Noel.

The ticketed event will have limited spaces and include a meet and greet with the conductor so stay tuned for when sales go live!
