May and June Events

April was a busy month. Board member Suresh Jones (EN ’08), along with Eric Le Calvez (CC ’03), and Saras Rachupalli (EN ’08) co-hosted the first CVC Breakfast club, Professor Richard Seager joined a number of members for dinner and conversation, and we held our second Open Board Meeting.

The CUCL Executive Committee just returned from a weekend in Madrid, Spain for the Columbia Alumni Leadership Weekend hosted by the Columbia Alumni Association of Spain. It was attended by leaders from France, Poland, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Egypt, Turkey, Spain, and London. From the Office of Alumni and Development in New York City, Donna MacPhee (VP for Alumni Relations, CC ’89) and Sara Cousins (Assistant Director of Regional Clubs) offered insight, support, and guidance throughout. President Courtney Cesari (CC ‘04) and Chair Maria Shiao (SEAS ‘86) were invited to speak about Leadership and Succession and VP Stephen Elms (SoA ‘08) spoke about Branding and Communications at the club level. With new connections across Europe we look forward to collaborations (e.g. Art Basel with the Club in Switzerland) and a stronger connection with the CAA. We hope to bring back the fresh ideas and energy to our activities in London.

We look forward to seeing you soon at one of our events in May and beyond.

Meet the Board:

Suresh Jones, Head of the CVC Committee

Suresh holds a Bachelor of Science with a major in Chemical Engineering from Columbia’s School of Engineering and Applied Science (2008). He moved to London in September 2016 to undertake an MBA at Imperial College Business School, where he served as President of the Entrepreneurship Club.

Over the course of his MBA, Suresh found his passion for entrepreneurship, which led him to start a company in the Food and Drink industry. He is excited to help grow the Columbia entrepreneurship scene here in London. Prior to London, Suresh lived and worked in the Middle East (five years) and United States (three years) in Oil and Gas.

Here’s what you (may have) missed:

CVC Breakfast

Hosted by Suresh Jones (EN ’08), co-founder of NutriBloc, Eric Le Calvez (CC ’03), co-founder of Kidbo, and Saras Rachupalli (EN ’08), founder of Art Mandala, the first CVC Founders’ Breakfast was an informal gathering where any Columbia alums interested in entrepreneurship (do not need to be founders or investors) came together to share their backgrounds, journeys, and ideas on what they would like to see and get out of the CVC as the group builds and progresses.

Please watch this space for future events and feel free to email [email protected] for full meeting notes.

CUCL was honoured to have Professor Richard Seager, of Palisades Geophysical Institute and Columbia's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at our disposal for an intimate discussion about how politics affects the weather affects the to answer all of these questions and anything else you might wonder. Professor Seager joined a group of CUCL members along with alumni from Notre Dame and faculty from University of Cambridge to discuss a wide range of topics over a Korean tasting menu at Jinjuu.
