Stay Connected While Remaining Apart

We hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy.

If your inbox is like ours, you’ve been getting a deluge of emails regarding the growing disruption and concern stemming from COVID-19. We don’t want to add to that. But we do want to share news and updates.

The mission of Columbia University Club of London (CUCL) is to offer social, cultural, educational, and networking opportunities throughout the year and promote the interests of the university, its schools, and alumni. To that goal, and following input and feedback from our Open Board Meeting last week, we’ve been working to support our community of more than 5,000 alumni in the UK.

In the coming weeks (maybe months) we’re trying a few initiatives to allow everyone to congregate online to share, support, and stay connected. These include a new exclusive Slack Team to host an online book club, film club, CVC, and a range of other activities. And as we’re very British, Tea Time at 4pm on Friday! Please see below for more on our first endeavours.

As we aim to limit our email newsletter to once a month, please make sure you’re connected on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for updates and the latest information on all our activities.

Do reach out at connect@columbiaclub.london if you need anything.

CUCL Members team on Slack is ready for you. This is a private member only team where we foster an online community of ideas, support, and networking. Especially in these isolating times.

When you join you'll automatically be added to two channels; #everyone and #new_to_slack The New to Slack channel offer some tips and custom features we've added.

When you join, please set up your profile by adding:

  • Name
  • Photo (preferably of yourself so we'll recognize you on future video calls or in person events)
  • Your school and graduation year (this can go in the "What I Do" field)

From there, please find the channels you'd like to join and start chatting. Each has a brief description to know more about the topic. These include CVC, staying healthy, cooking, film, books (fiction and nonfiction), podcasts, etc. We can add more if / when needed.

To join, follow the link below and login on the website. This is for registered members only (and if you're receiving this email, you have an account).
