Summer is Heating Up with Our June Events

With the sun shining and temperatures nearing 26ºC (77ºF for those that haven’t made the conversion) you’d be hard pressed not to think summer has arrived, but we’re still a few weeks from its official start. That’s no excuse not to get out and enjoy London at its finest. And CUCL has a number of things planned to help you do just that.

This Friday, June 8, join us for a performance by Thomas Bartlett & Nico Muhly (CC ‘04), plan a weekend getaway to Switzerland for Art Basel, or pop in at our Summer Solstice Happy Hour on the Greenwich Peninsula as we have drinks on the prime meridian followed by a cable car ride over the Thames near sunset. Lastly, close out the month with a international DJ sensation Mark Ronson at the JW3 Alan Howard Speaker Series.

And we’re just getting started. Make sure you ‘save the date’ for our upcoming activities in July, August, and September.

Please also keep in touch. We’d love to get feedback on events you’ve attended, or the types of activities you’d like the club to plan. Reach out at [email protected]

Arts Access Tour: Picasso 1932 - Love, Fame, Tragedy

cucl-june-2018_picasso_270.png

Our tour of this fantastic exhibition at the Tate Modern took us on a whirlwind year in the life of Picasso. Rachel, our very knowledgeable guide, had a wealth of information on what we would now call a "midlife crisis" that triggered enormous creativity and amounts of art work, mostly inspired by Picasso’s new young lover: Marie-Therese Walter.  We also heard about the relationships Picasso had with other artists of the time, which helped us put everything into perspective.

Arts Access Tour:

Mid May was immensely stimulating with exclusive CUCL Photo London VIP events! Photo London is a premier event in the global art calendar with booths of over hundred galleries specializing in photography installed in the lavish Somerset House. Photo London Board Member, Camilla Grimaldi, led a curated VIP collector tour of a few handpicked galleries giving CUCL members the opportunity to engage with leading Mayfair and global gallery directors. The breakfast event, at the studio of acclaimed conceptual photographer Sophy Rickett, we were privy to a preview of her residency work with a professor at Cambridge University. Her award-winning works are in the collections of the V&A and Centre George Pompidou, Paris.
