‘Every kang deserves a crown’
Full of laughter, song and healing, CC'03 alum Katori Hall’s 2021 Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy, The Hot Wing King, makes its London debut in a fiery new production directed by Roy Alexander Weise (‘Master Harold’… and the Boys, Nine Night).
Things are heating up in Memphis as the annual Hot Wing Festival rolls into town. With their sights set on the crown, Cordell, his partner Dwayne and friends Isom and Big Charles team up again as the New Wing Order, with a new attitude and a mouth-watering new wing recipe.
But after an unexpected family emergency, their plans get derailed as the men navigate the meaning of love, family and staying true to yourself.
Columbia College 2003 graduate Katori Hall received the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her play The Hot Wing King, a comedy centered around Memphis’s annual “Hot Wing Festival”; she made her directorial debut when the play appeared at Atlanta’s Alliance Theater earlier this year. Hall received two 2020 Tony Award nominations and an Olivier Award nomination for Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, based on the life of the iconic performer; the Tony nominations recognized Hall’s work as a playwright (“Best Book of a Musical”) and as a producer (“Best Musical”). Hall, who hails from Memphis, won the Olivier for Best New Play for her 2010 drama, The Mountaintop, which imagines the final night of Martin Luther King Jr.’s life.
