January News 2017

Happy New Year!!

We hope you are all well rested and ready for 2017. Many of you came to our first Happy Hour of the year, which will now be held monthly (on the first Wednesday of every month) and we hope many more of you will attend our January 24th Columbia Updates event with Donna McPhee (see below).

January marks the announcement of our annual calendar of events, and although it is still work in progress, you can have a glimpse at what we've planned for you.

We're also building our volunteer group, so whether you have an idea for an event or you'd like to help on a one-off basis, please let us know! The best way to get involved is simply to attend one of our events and have a chat with one of the club leaders. Otherwise, please email us: [email protected]

See you all on the 24th!

2017 Event Snapshot

In addition to speaker and arts/culture events, which we will be announced during the year, here's a snapshot of what the CUCL leadership team has been preparing for you.

We kicked off the year on January 4th with our monthly Happy Hour. It will be taking place every first Wednesday of the month, and although our regular location is the Princess Louise Pub in Holborn, in February we will be holding our Happy Chinese New Year Hour in…Chinatown! Check out the details here and make sure you check out our website or Facebook page for exact date/location each month!

March will see the re-launch of our annual Columbia Community Outreach Day (CCO), when Columbians around the world get together to volunteer in their communities. This was a much loved tradition at the CUCL and we are currently identifying a charity where all of our talents can be put to work. We are still looking for a leader for this event, so let us know if you are interested!

Also in March, we will launch our exciting Balliol/Oxford-Harvard-Columbia partnership, a series of thought provoking, high-profile events to discuss major technology and business trends. The first event will be on FinTech, and we will be sharing details soon. The second event will take place in May.

In April, the CUCL Walking Tours will have their inaugural tour in London. And a more bucolic walk will take place in June.

The Columbia v LBS Tennis re-match will also take place in April - and we need many more Columbia players to get even, so if you are interested, please let us know (or subscribe to the CUCL tennis group)

June will see the arrival of our Columbia Experience Overseas (CEO) interns. These CC/SEAS undergraduate students will spend 8 weeks interning in London. We will be assigning them mentors and organizing a few social summer events for them to meet the broader alumni community.

After the summer break, it will be time for Columbia Connects, our annual social and networking event across the world. And we will also be holding our Annual Meeting and elections around that time, just before the end of year frenzy takes over again!
